Queen’s Certificate in Mining Technologies (CMT) is a 6-course undergraduate program offered online in an asynchronous format, typically completed in two years. This program prepares upper-year undergraduates and mining professionals for a career in the rapidly changing global mining industry.

Courses can, in some cases, be substituted between streams at the discretion of the Undergraduate Chair.

Program Requirements

  • Students must complete 6 courses.
  • Average time commitment is between 8 and 12 hours per course per week during term.
  • Individuals working full-time typically take one course per term and finish in six terms (two years).

 

Admission Criteria

  • Any student who has successfully completed at least two years of engineering or relevant science studies (e.g. geology, earth sciences, environmental sciences) at the Technician, Technologist, or bachelor’s level as well as

    • one university-level Calculus course,
    • one university-level introductory Physics,
    • and one university-level introductory Chemistry course
    at a recognized institution is eligible for admission to the Certificate in Mining Technologies.
  • A cumulative average (cumulative GPA) in their program of at least 73% (B average under Queen’s grading scheme).
  • In exceptional cases, significant and relevant professional experience may provide a basis for flexibility in admissions cut-off.
  • All international students must meet Queen’s University’s English language requirements.

Tuition & Fees

Fees for CMT students are calculated based on the credit unit weighting of each course. CMT courses range in unit weight, between 3.0 and 4.5 credit units.

The current cost per credit unit is $238.23 for Domestic students (Ontario) and $848.68 for International students.

For example, current fees for a 3.0 credit course are:

  • Domestic Students (Ontario) CAD $714.69
  • International Students CAD $2,546.04 or approximately USD $1,900 as of December 18, 2023. (plus minor fees for exams etc.)

How to Apply

Complete the online application form through Queen’s Online Admissions Portal.
($100 Payment must be made for the application to be submitted.)

  1. Application information is received and loaded into SOLUS (1-2 days after application is completed).

Application acknowledgement email is sent out (2-6 days after application is received).

Requests for transcripts and course descriptions are added to SOLUS To-Do list.

(Final transcript must be submitted to ensure offer conditions have been met.)

  1. Applications are reviewed once all required documents have been received.

Admission decisions are made on a weekly basis. (Offer and refusal emails are sent out each Wednesday for decisions made during the previous week.)
