Program Overview

Looking to refine your mining engineering knowledge? Gain a competitive edge in today’s job market with our Master of Engineering program. This one-year, coursework-based program will give you the opportunity to study advanced courses in your field of interest in the mining industry and prepare you to solve broad problems in the mining industry. The program is designed to provide the mining industry with specialist personnel capable of solving broad problems either as mining or research company employees or consultants.

Admission and Application

The requirement for completion of the MEng degree is eight (8) term length courses. Two of the courses can be at the 400 undergraduate level. Students are eligible to take any relevant courses listed in the Graduate Calendar, as long as at least four (4) of the courses are taken from their home department. Students generally take a set of courses that fit their background and interest. In Mining Engineering, students have the option to take MINE-898, a project-based course that counts as one course towards the required eight courses total. MEng students are also required to take the non-credit course APSC 801 Master of Engineering Foundations.

Graduate students are required to complete training on the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (AODA), through the online course in Accessible Customer Service, as part of their graduate degree program and before being approved for graduation.

Bachelor's degree in mining, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, or other related engineering fields, with a B- average.
Many of our students come from industrial backgrounds. Anyone without academic prerequisites will be placed on probation and required to take additional courses.

Applicants whose native languages do not include English will be required to obtain satisfactory standing in an English Language Proficiency Test as part of the application process and before final acceptance is granted. See the School of Graduate Studies’ TOEFL minimum score requirements. Applicants must meet the minimum score requirement for each test and the minimum overall score requirement.

To begin your application or learn more about the process, please review the School of Graduate Studies Application Guide.
