Mathematical and numerical design tools are used to investigate the likely impact of geological and geotechnical parameters on mine safety, operation, economy and management systems. Mine design and modeling research includes a wide range of topics includes intact rock, discontinuities and rock mass characterization, impact of time-dependant behaviors of rock mass and dynamic events on mine stability and safety, ground localization around excavations, design of mine opening and spaces, design and behavior of ground support systems, slope stability, waste dump, backfill and tailing stability and design.
